All in all, I would say, for a Linksys product, this card should function a little better. My laptop, with built-in wireless card, for comparison, always gets five bars in the same location. That said, the adapter has no problem acquiring the signal and the connection has to be repaired only once in a while. My Linksys wireless USB adapter works pretty well, except that it is a little weak in picking up a signal. But I am happy with it and will stick with it. I am surprised that it only gets four out of five bars on the signal strength. I use it on a Dell desktop to pick up my Linksys wireless router system in the next room. My roommate also uses one, and has the same problem.
It connects everyday at 54mbps 100% and my router(linksys wrt54gs) is at least 20 feet away and in a different room. As far as I can say. All in all a great wifi adapter. I have been using this product for about a year now and it works flawlessly(with the windows vista/xp configuration software). I would rate it with less stars for the product software but i am not rating the software.
I spent 3-4 hours messing with the stupid thing, until I finally contacted a rep via chat and they told me that the Vista drivers were not available. The box says it is "VISTA CERTIFIED" Baloney. I finally called Linksys and the rep told me that it was not backwards compatible. I am so furious, this is a complete disrespect of my time as a customer. Then I bought this one. I am soooooo ticked off.
I could never get it to work. When I opened the box there was a paper that said I needed to download the Vista drivers from the website, but there were no Vista drivers on the website, only XP. This is my second adapter. Again another lie. I will never buy a linksys product again. The first one that I bought was the Wireless N adapter that Linksys (the box) said was backwards compatible.
"The box is wrong".
If someone could recommend something similar with a longer life span, I'd be happy to give it a try. Two for each in a bit over a year. Yes, if you don't mind that you will be back out buying another one in less than a year. Although I hesitate to buy the same exact thing, I do love the simplicity and I like the speed in which they function until they just die one day and you are left scrambling for internet life.
Before I begin, let me tell you that I wanted EASY to use and that is what I got. The key would be EASY TO USE and SPEED. They work great when they are working. These adapters are as easy as plug and play for those of us that are tech challenged.
So here I am buying two more.do I recommmend them. Now let me also add that I have now gone through FOUR of these on two pc's. I am here now looking for more.
I highly recommend this product. I bought this for my son's computer (he plays games online), worrying that speed would be an issue.boy, was I wrong. Also, it couldn't possibly be easier to set up.
